COVID Live Updates: Moderna releases new information on how to get the second coronavirus vaccine

NEW YORK (WABC) – There is new information about the Modern COVID-19 vaccine.

The drugmaker says that a second dose can be administered between 21 and 42 days after the first.

In clinical trials, there is an interval of 28 days.

President-elect Joe Biden has pledged to release all doses of vaccine the government has.

This announcement has raised fears that some patients may not receive the second dose when they should.

Moderna’s goal is to deliver 100 million doses by the end of the first quarter.

NY reports 3 new cases of COVID-19 variant
New York reported three new cases of the COVID-19 variant first identified in the UK, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Saturday. One case is a 64-year-old man from Massapequa, in Nassau County. The other two are linked to the first case discovered in the state of Saratoga Springs.

NYC to open vaccine sites for group 1b

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that five new vaccination sites will be opened, one in each of the five neighborhoods, with the hope that city officials who are members of 1b will be allowed to be vaccinated. Category 1b includes essential frontline workers, daycare centers, firefighters and police and correction officers. The mayor has also renewed his call for the state to allow the elderly to receive the COVID vaccine now. He said the city has 270,000 unused doses that can go to people over 75, the age group most likely to die from the disease.

NYPD Commissioner tests positive for COVID-19
NYPD commissioner Dermot Shea tested positive for the coronavirus. “He is in touch with his executive team. He is at home and manages the department remotely,” NYPD spokesman Rich Esposito told ABC News.

Vaccine mega-sites open in 2 NJ sites
The first two of the six vaccine mega-sites planned in New Jersey open today – at Rockaway Townsquare Mall and Rowan College in South Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy visited the Rockaway site in Morris County at 8:30 am

Newark and Jersey City schools will remain closed until April
Due to the high transmission rate of COVID-19, students enrolled in public schools in Jersey City and Newark will remain in Remote Learning Phase I until April 21, 2021, both districts announced on Friday. Jersey City and Newark are the two largest cities in New Jersey.
