While the specific plots for each character of “Sex and the City” in the HBO Max revival are unknown, star Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed that the limited series will incorporate the pandemic COVID-19 into the show.
Speaking to Vanity Fair on Friday, the actress said she is looking forward to the scripts of showrunner Michael Patrick King, who leads a scriptwriting room that is otherwise entirely composed of women.
“It’s incredibly diverse in a really exciting way,” said Parker of the show’s new writers, who will infuse the series with a new “life experience, political worldviews and social worldviews.”
Parker said writing the coronavirus in the plot was a no-brainer, given that the show’s setting is New York City.
“[COVID-19 will] obviously be part of history, because this is the city [these characters] move in, ”she said. “And how did that change relationships after friends disappeared? I have great faith that the writers will examine everything. “
The revival will follow Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) as they sail on love and friendship now in their 50s. The series will consist of 10 half-hour episodes and is scheduled to begin production in New York City in late spring. Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original series, will not return and the show will incorporate the city as her “fourth character”, said Parker. Along with King, the revival will be executive produced by Parker, Nixon and Davis.
Parker added that she is excited to see how women are coping with middle age.
“I think Cynthia, Kristin and I are all excited about the time,” said Parker. “You know, who are they in this world now? Have they adapted? What role did they play? Where did they fall short as women, as friends, and how are they finding their way? Did they move with momentum? They are like some people who are confused, threatened, nervous [by what’s happening in the world]? I am so curious and excited to see how writers imagine these women today. “
