Health officials will begin distributing COVID-19 vaccines this week at Disneyland, the Orange County Board of Supervisors said on Monday, making the resort the first “super” vaccination site in the county.
In a statement late on Monday, county supervisors said Disneyland would be one of five major distribution centers that collectively will be able to vaccinate thousands of residents every day. Arrangements for the other sites are being finalized, the statement said.
Supervisor Doug Chaffee, whose district includes Disneyland, called these large-scale vaccination sites “absolutely essential to stop this deadly virus.”
Health officials are expected to start vaccinating people at Disneyland this week, the county said. The first eligible for the vaccine are people at the highest priority level in the state, which includes workers in health and long-term care facilities.
Most people who are eligible for the vaccine will be contacted through their employer to make an appointment, the county said. Walk-ups will not be accommodated on the Disneyland website, and vaccine recipients must show identification and proof of eligibility before being inoculated.
Efficient distribution of the vaccine depends “on everyone understanding where they fit into the phased plan,” said the county statement.
Residents were encouraged to visit the OC Health Care Agency website, www.covidvaccinefacts.com, to determine when they would become eligible for the vaccine. Those who try to obtain an “ahead of schedule, will overload the system,” said the county, “making it even more challenging to meet this urgent need.”
