COVID 19 vaccine today: Cook County opening new vaccination site in Forest Park while Illinois, Indiana expands eligibility

CHICAGO (WLS) – COVID-19 vaccine eligibility is expanding in Illinois and Indiana and Cook County is announcing plans for a new mass vaccination site in Forest Park.

As of Monday, higher education officials, government officials and members of the media are eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in more than 900 locations, including Walgreens, CVS and Jewel-Osco.

Chicago, however, will move to group 1C next Monday.

In Cook County, people in Group 1B + are now eligible, which includes anyone aged 16 or older with certain health conditions. The county is now also receiving extra doses for its state-administered mass vaccination sites so that it can offer vaccines to all Illinois residents in Groups 1A, 1B and 1B +.

Just a week ago, Cook County Council President Toni Preckwinkle said that vaccine delivery was not predictable enough to know when 1B + would be possible, so certainly promising news to see the county now enter that stage a few days later, with more injections on the way.
