Across the United States, where the outbreak has entered its most lethal phase and the death toll has risen to around 375,000, politicians and health officials have complained in recent days that many shots have not been used on the shelves due to over-stickiness strict to federal guidelines that put about 24 million health workers and nursing home residents on the front lines.
Experts say that up to 85% of the population will have to be inoculated to obtain “herd immunity” and beat the outbreak.
Many states are responding by paving the way for others and accelerating the pace of vaccinations, in some cases offering 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
