Authorities ruled out vaccination against coronavirus as the cause of the death of a California man, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced on Sunday.
The 64-year-old unidentified health worker died on January 21, several hours after receiving the vaccine.
“Through our investigation, we discovered more details about the individual. We learned that not only was he recently diagnosed with COVID-19, but he also had underlying health problems and had symptoms of illness at the time the vaccine was administered,” said the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said the man started complaining of side effects 10 minutes after the vaccination. It was also previously announced that the man’s test was positive for the new virus in late December.
“The clinical examination and laboratory results determined that the COVID-19 vaccine was discarded as a contributing factor to the individual’s death.”
It is not yet clear whether the man received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.
RISKS OF COVID-19 DISEASE SIDE EFFECTS OF ‘FAR OUTWEIGH’ VACCINE: EXPERTS
Vaccines can cause side effects such as fever, chills, tiredness, headache and pain at the injection site, but these are normal signs that the body is building protection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ). Serious allergic reactions to the vaccine are “extremely rare,” said the CDC, and health experts say the risks of COVID-19 disease far outweigh the risks of any vaccine side effects.
The news comes after the death of another man in California, X-ray technician Tim Zook, 60, who died four days after receiving his second dose from Pfizer. The Orange County Coroner previously confirmed that it was investigating Zook’s death in an emailed statement to Fox News. Additional tests and autopsy results will determine the cause of death.
