COVID-19 vaccine clinic for the elderly attracts hundreds in the Inland Empire

LAKE ELSINORE (KABC) – Before sunrise, a line of cars snaked down a Lake Elsinore street in front of Diamond Stadium.

The site is an exclusive supervaccination clinic for people over 65.

David Hollingsworth, 84, waited an hour before receiving his 19 chance.

“I’m looking forward to getting the second one to finish. I want to take a plane, fly back and visit my son and his kids in Connecticut,” said Hollingsworth.

While he was engaged, many in line did not.

James Kennedy, 87, brought only a newspaper article about the vaccine clinic.

“I’m a diabetic. I just had my insulin injection. I had two open heart surgeries. I don’t know about an appointment. No one has ever said anything about an appointment, ”said Kennedy.

He was not alone.

Many elderly people in line cited the lack of technological knowledge or even a home computer for the confusion along with long waiting times on the phone.

“I must have called 20 different phone numbers from the California State Department of Health and they gave us Riverside, but no one answers the phone,” said Jay Adams of Murrieta.

Earlier this week, Riverside County made 5,600 vaccine appointments available to its elderly population, which were quickly slaughtered.

“What we want to do is help people, we don’t want to send people away, but it is very important that people follow the protocol to get these nominations,” John Welsh, spokesman for Riverside County.

In the end, county officials did not turn down seniors for lack of appointment.

The relief with the gesture was evident.

Riverside County is stressing the public because of the limited number of vaccines that people are expected to book. They hope to vaccinate about 700 to 800 people at Lake Elsinore on Saturday.
