COVID-19 vaccinations at Alabama veterans’ homes as of Tuesday

The COVID-19 vaccinations for 468 residents and 850 employees in Alabama’s four veterans’ homes are about to begin, announced the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs.

Immunizations with the Pfizer vaccine begin on Tuesday at Bill Nichols ‘state veterans’ home in Alexander City.

Immunizations will continue for the next two weeks:

  • December 31 at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville.
  • January 7 at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette.
  • January 11 at Colonel Robert L. Howard’s State Veterans House in Pell City.

“For several weeks, our health care team worked with the Alabama Department of Public Health to schedule vaccinations for our residents and veteran staff,” said ADVA commissioner Kent Davis in a press release. “Our medical team in the homes of state veterans is prepared to administer the first and subsequent rounds of the vaccine starting tomorrow.”

The health care provider for Alabama’s four veteran homes, Health Management Resources of Alabama, Inc., is working with Walgreens to administer the Pfizer vaccine in two doses. The second doses will come three weeks after the first.

Healthcare professionals and nursing home residents have early access to vaccines in accordance with guidelines established by the federal government and states.
