Public health officials in Humboldt County continue to pressure the state of California for clarity on its recently updated guidance for youth and recreational sports for adults. Although the state prohibits adult sports spectators, “age-appropriate supervision” of youth sports is permitted. Given the lack of a specific definition of that term, Public Health officials will not impose any restrictions on the number of close relatives who can attend games or training, but ask all those who participate in a youth sporting event to maintain physical distance. family members and wear a face cover all the time.

Humboldt County Public Health Director Michele Stephens said: “Humboldt County fully supports common sense rules and regulations that prevent the spread of COVID-19, but will not endorse a statewide approach that does not take into account our local conditions and other damages small businesses that are the backbone of our community. ”
