Humboldt County Joint Information Center press release:

Twenty-one new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Humboldt County since the most recent report on Friday. The total number of county residents who tested positive for the virus now stands at 3,370.

Humboldt County Public Health will hold two large-scale COVID-19 vaccination clinics this week, in partnership with local health care providers, and expects to administer approximately 1,300 doses. More than 600 of these clinical spaces are reserved for second doses.

Clinical consultations are still by invitation only. To fill in the queries available to people aged 65 and over, Public Health is using the information submitted via the online interest form based on the vaccine priorities set by the state.

To access the form of interest:

Other approved local vaccinators are contacting their qualified patients directly to schedule vaccination appointments.

The groups now prioritized for vaccination include:

  • 65 or older – All county residents in this age group qualify.
  • Emergency services – All security forces, firefighters and medical first aid, including volunteers and paid personnel.
  • Early childhood and elementary education, childcare – All employees, paid and voluntary, who work in an early childhood or elementary education environment, such as educators or support staff. This includes advisors and office staff, as well as transportation, custody, cafeteria and maintenance workers.
  • Higher education – All educators and support staff.
  • Phase 1A health care – All workers in this sector.
  • Those aged 16 to 64 with specific high-risk medical conditions or disabilities – county residents considered to be at greatest risk of falling ill by COVID-19 qualify.

Vaccination priorities are defined by the state of California, and the ability to vaccinate additional groups remains strictly limited by the available supply. Without a significant increase in weekly allocation, it will take months before Humboldt County has enough doses to vaccinate everyone in these sectors and age groups.
