Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Another 147 cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Thursday’s most recent report. One case previously reported was determined to be a duplicate, so the total number of Humboldt County residents who test positive is now 1,910.

Given the recent increase in local cases, Humboldt County Health Officer, Dr. Ian Hoffman, shared information about best practices for people who test positive and those who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19. “If your test is positive, follow the isolation procedures. Stay at home and contact the Joint Information Center. The orientation is as simple as that, ”he said. “Isolating yourself from other people, including the people you live with, is the best way to break the chain of transmission and keep your friends and loved ones safe.

The quarantine is intended for people who have not tested positive, but have been identified as close contact with a person known to be positive for COVID-19. Close contact is defined as being 1.8 m from a positive COVID person for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.

“If you have been notified by a medical professional or someone you know is a close contact, follow the quarantine guidelines and stay at home for at least 10 days from the time of exposure,” said Hoffman, adding that quarantine for 14 days it is still the safest option to avoid exposure. “Don’t be tested again. It puts healthcare professionals at risk and a negative test result has no impact on quarantine duration. ”
