Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
A total of 2,263 county residents tested positive for COVID-19, after 43 new cases were reported today.
In vaccine news, Public Health continues to prioritize vaccination for Phase 1A residents and those aged 75 and over due to the limited number of vaccines available. Vaccines are currently provided by medical service providers and by invitation to public health clinics. Public Health currently has the capacity to administer just over 200 vaccines per day, with 200 administered on Wednesday, 210 on Thursday and 204 today. This is in addition to the doses administered by doctors.
Although public health officer Dr. Ian Hoffman recognizes that the vaccination rate is expected to increase, much of this depends on the number of vaccines sent to the county and the number of vaccinators available to vaccinate.
“The state announced that it would provide additional doses to expand our ability to reach more people at various stages,” said Dr. Hoffman. “While we wait for these additional doses to arrive, we are expanding our infrastructure to speed up operations.”
On Thursday afternoon, 21 medical professionals took the oath to the county as disaster relief volunteers to assist with vaccination efforts. Dr. Hoffman said that this community effort will help a lot in the work that lies ahead.
