In vaccine news, the county received its first shipment of the Moderna vaccine earlier this week. The Modern vaccine is especially important for rural communities because it does not need to be frozen in extreme temperatures and, once thawed, it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 30 days. The Modern vaccine can also be shipped in smaller quantities. The distribution of this vaccine to local providers began today and will continue in weekly distributions.
The county is currently in Phase 1A of vaccine distribution, which includes three levels that indicate priority. Humboldt County is vaccinating Phase 1A-level 1 and is preparing to expand to level 2, which will include community health workers, home health and home support services, public health staff and primary care clinics.
