COVID-19 pop-up vaccination clinic arriving in downtown Ithaca on February 19

ITHACA, NY – Downtown Ithaca will receive a coveted COVID-19 pop-up vaccination clinic this week, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

The clinic will be held at Beverly J. Martin Elementary School, located at 302 W. Buffalo Street, on Friday, February 19. There will be 300 doses available at the clinic; 200 will be for people who are eligible under Phase 1A and Phase 1B of the vaccination distribution plan, and the other 100 are designed for people over 65 with comorbidities (or underlying medical conditions). It will include a registration for a second dose. It is unclear whether these doses are separate from the other 800 that were announced on Tuesday.

Registration for the initial clinic will be distributed privately by the health department and GIAC to people who are eligible in Phase 1B, and registration by phone will also be available for the elderly and those with limited technological experience. Eligibility information is available here.

Governor Andrew Cuomo had announced the possibility of pop-up clinics in the interior of the state last week, following the launch of a first round of three to take place in New York City. Cuomo said these pop-up sites would be occupied by federal officials.

“We are thrilled to host the county’s first pop-up clinic in such a historic and central location,” said public health director Frank Kruppa. “This clinic will serve individuals who may have barriers to access the vaccination site at the mall. BJM is also a family and trusted community space for our downtown neighbors. “

Kruppa also thanked the ICSD and the Cayuga Health System for their help, as well as the GIAC for their outreach work.

“In addition, our local representatives working at the Southern Tier Vaccination Coalition helped to identify the GIAC / BJM as one of several locations in the county where the state could maintain a pop-up clinic,” continued Kruppa. “It is because of these strong partnerships and the support of the community that we can mobilize a large-scale clinic in a few days.”

“GIAC is excited about partnering with the Department of Health, the Cayuga Health System and the ICSD for this instant vaccination clinic. GIAC shares the commitment with BJM and other partner organizations to build a culture of love, resilience and strong relationships. This pandemic has tested us as a community, but now is our time to get up, get up and get vaccinated, ”said Leslyn McBean-Clairborne, Executive Director of the GIAC and President of the Tompkins County Legislature.
