COVID-19 hospitalizations decrease with the start of the new year

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Department of Public Health reported on Friday a total of 575 COVID-19-related hospitalizations in the state. That number is 25 below this time yesterday.

As of 10:30 am on Friday, the ICU and the use of the ventilator also decreased. The state reported 117 patients in the ICU (against 134 reported on Thursday) and 63 patients on ventilators (compared with 69 on Thursday).

The state reported in the past 24 hours an additional 2,132 Iowa residents tested positive for COVID-19, and the state added 7 more reported COVID-19-related deaths.

According to state data this morning, a total of 282,435 Iowa residents tested positive for COVID-19 and 3,898 Iowa residents have died of the virus since the pandemic began.

These data show that COVID-19 was the underlying cause of 3,578 deaths, and COVID-19 was a contributing factor in 320 deaths.

A total of 241,228 Iowa residents recovered from COVID-19.

According to the data made available by the state, 4,629 tests were recorded in the last 24 hours. A total of 1,359,654 tests have been carried out since the pandemic began. According to these data, the rate of positivity in the last 24 hours was 46.1 percent.
