COVID-19 claims 12 lives in BC, another 465 infections reported

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As the province continues to vaccinate as many high-risk people against COVID-19, another 12 people died of the virus.

In a joint release with Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, they reported another 465 coronavirus infections on Tuesday.

The number of hospitalizations due to the virus has been decreasing since last week, with 70 of the current 329 patients in the ICU.

While the province has had to redo its vaccination schedule – after a delay in Pfizer shipments – 93,369 British Colombians have been immunized so far.

“COVID-19 vaccines bring hope and challenge: Hope, knowing that in a few months many people will have immunity to this virus; and challenge due to the current limited supply – in British Columbia, Canada and around the world. Vaccines are our way to the better days to come. However, until this path is wide enough for everyone, we must continue to focus on our individual efforts, ”says the statement.

Dix said earlier in the day that the Modern vaccine will have to be the “dumb vaccine for the first few doses” pending more doses. He added that second doses are less worrying compared to the delay in more people receiving their first doses, which will depend on future deliveries.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,090 people have died of COVID-19 in BC and 61,912 have contracted the virus.

There was no new outbreak to report, and Emerald’s in Elim Village, Surrey, ended.

According to Fraser Health, the outbreaks also ended in Maple Ridge Seniors Village in Maple Ridge and Guildford Seniors Village in Surrey.
