Couple fined after the woman walked with her husband on a leash during the COVID curfew

A Canadian woman had a chance for a dog to overcome coronavirus restrictions – walking her husband on a leash, according to a report.

The 24-year-old told police she was just “walking the dog” near her home in the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, where the curfew was imposed from 8 pm to 5 am, the Telegraph reported.

The police spotted the strange couple around 9 pm on Saturday, when the curfew was in effect.

According to the rules, people can venture out during these hours to walk the dogs if they stay about 800 meters from their homes.

“One of them had the other on a leash and she said she was taking her dog, pointing at her partner, for a walk, as allowed by the exceptions provided by the premier of Quebec under his curfew law,” said a spokeswoman for the Isabelle Gendron police, according to the Telegraph.

The woman and her 40-year-old husband, who was not identified, were fined $ 1,217 for the violation.

They said it would be a “pleasure” to receive the ticket, adding that “it would not prevent them from breaking the rules in the future and they would see how many tickets they could get,” said Gendron.

On Monday, Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, asked residents to respect the rules of social distance, saying: “I know it is difficult, but Quebecers can work as a team when necessary,” the BBC reported.

In Quebec, the police issued 750 fines for violations during the first weekend after the curfew.

Canada has recorded almost 670,000 total cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
