“The family and I are mourning his loss, but we know that he is in a better position than we are at the moment,” she wrote.
Parton described his brother as “a great singer, writer and artist” and said he sang and played guitar and bass in his band for many years.
“He had several records on the charts, but his duet with me on ‘Old Flames Can’t Hold A Candle To You’ will always be a highlight in my career,” she wrote.
More recently, he and his daughter, Heidi, sang with Parton on the song “You Are My Christmas”, which appeared on his last Christmas album.
“It was his last musical recording and he shone on it as it is shining in the sky now,” said Parton.
