Seth ‘Scump’ Abner, veteran CoD pro at OpTic Chicago, shared his competitive AK-74u class configuration while the powerful submachine gun continues to lead the way in the Black Ops Cold War.
With the last installment of Treyarch’s Call of Duty approaching a few months, the goal is consolidating as the second season of CDL approaches.
As such, we are seeing what weapons we can expect professionals to use and, unlike last year’s fairly predictable M4A1 and MP5 dominance, there appears to be some initial range of weapons. The MP5 and AK-74u are dominating SMG choices, while the XM4, Krig-6 and AK-47 are popular choices among AR players.
Scump, as a historic SMG star, mainly directed the AK-74u in the first games of OpTic Chicago. During a recent broadcast, the King gave us a look at the accessories that are competing for the competitive game.
With Black Ops Cold War inheriting Modern Warfare’s Gunsmith system, there’s an incredible amount of choice in terms of accessories. Fortunately, professionals like Scump give casual players an idea of the best accessories to perform.

Scump AK-74u loading for competitive Black Ops cold war
- Snout: Spetsnaz Compensator
- Barrel: 9.3 ″ Extended
- Underbarrel: Spetsnaz Speedgrip
- Stock: GRU Elastic Wrap
- Deal with: Skeletal stock KGB
The Spetsnaz Compensator offers a 12% improvement in terms of vertical setback control, but loses 8% control over horizontal setback. However, the loss of control of the horizontal recoil of the barrel is counteracted in some way by the Spetsnaz Speedgrip, which also improves sprint speed, allowing Scump to move around the map as quickly as possible. In professional matches, achieving a certain headache or power position before an enemy can easily make or break a tough spot.
The 9.3 ″ extended barrel offers a 40% improvement in bullet speed, increasing the already impressive AK-74u bullet speed. Then the GRU Elastic Wrap essentially combines the benefits of Dropshot tape and Spetsnaz Field Grip, offering resistance to wavering, reduced ADS time and drophot capability. However, reductions in the movement speed of the shot and the sprint time to shoot are the penalties to be paid.
Finally, the KGB Skeletal Stock massively increases sprint time to fire (30%) and targets walking speed (40%). The only price to pay is a reduction in the accuracy of the hipfire.
As you can see, Scump’s AK-74u vastly improves many aspects of the weapon. A weak point is the ammunition capacity for 30 rounds, which was left alone in the accessories. Given the weapon’s very fast reload time, however, it is a moderately small price to pay.
We can expect to see Scump rocking this AK-74u class in scrims for now, and the CDL season when it launches in 2021. That is, barring any serious Treyarch nerfs.
