Costco Sales Increases 15% in the Last Quarter

Sales of Costco Wholesale Corp. increased again in the last quarter, as Americans continued to buy food and household products during the pandemic.

Wholesale retail chain revenue rose to $ 44.77 billion in the quarter ended February 14, an increase of 15% over the same period last year, driven by strong demand for fresh food and household products and exceeding analysts’ projections of $ 43.7 billion.

Comparable sales, in stores or digital channels in operation for at least 12 months, increased by 12.9% in the February quarter, excluding the impact of gasoline sales and exchange rate movements. Retailer’s e-commerce sales increased 74.8% over the previous year, as adjusted.

The average ticket size increased 11.9% company-wide.

The company faced some supply chain challenges in the quarter in relation to container shortages and port delays, which led to delays in furniture, sporting goods and various items such as seafood, imported cheeses and oils.
