Update: CD Projekt released a new patch for Cyberpunk 2077 that eliminates the 8MB file size limit for saves, ending an issue that caused players to lose progress.
Cyberpunk 2077 players have lost hours of progress in saving the game with many items and crafting materials in their inventory. Hotfix 1.06 fixes this problem, although CD Projekt notes that “this will not fix saved saved files before updating.”
The new update 1.06 also fixes a bug where Dum Dum disappeared from the entrance to Totentanz during the Second Conflict mission. There should also be less crashes on the console now, thanks to “improved memory management and stability”.
Original story:
Cyberpunk 2077 recordings will be corrupted if they exceed 8 MB in size.
According to a topic in Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, saved files need to stay below 8MB to keep them safe, but this is proving difficult for an RPG game that usually requires a lot of elaboration and collectibles.
The problem is also affecting PC gamers, who have so far escaped many of the main problems affecting the console version.
In a response through the GOG website – which is owned by the controlling company of the developer CD Projekt Red – the studio confirmed that, once corrupted, there is no way to recover the saved file, so it recommends that you keep “a smaller amount of items and manufacturing materials”.

“Unfortunately, the save is damaged and cannot be recovered. Please use an old save file to continue playing and try to keep fewer items and crafting materials,” the message said.
“If you used item duplication failure, upload a saved file that is not affected by it.”
He added that while the size of the saved file “can be increased in one of the future patches”, “the corrupted files will remain so”.
As Hirun summed it up yesterday, all of this comes after the rather disastrous release of Cyberpunk 2077 for PS4 and Xbox One. After assuring players that the game worked “surprisingly well“on state-of-the-art platforms, the leadership of CD Projekt Red apologized for game launch full of bugs on both platforms last week, after players found several bugs, glitches and visual downgrades. A few days ago, the leadership of CD Projekt Red said that the cost of fixing Cyberpunk 2077 on next-generation platforms was “irrelevant“compared to the success your reputation had at launch.
