CHAMPAIGN – Applications are already underway for the next round of Champaign County COVID-19 vaccinations next week.

The next vaccination clinics will be held in four days in two locations in Champaign, from 8 am to 4:30 pm from January 19 to 22, with vaccination by appointment only.

Eligible for vaccination next week are county residents aged 75 and over who were not vaccinated last week, in addition to residents aged 65 to 74 with underlying health conditions that put them at greater risk for serious cases of COVID-19 , according to the Champaign-Urbana Public Sanitary District.

The underlying health conditions include cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, heart disease, obesity, sickle cell disease, diabetes and having a compromised immune system due to an organ transplant. Smokers in this age group can also be vaccinated starting next week.

No written documentation from the primary care physicians of patients will be required.

The vaccination post operated by Carle Health at Kohl’s Plaza is full for the weeks of 18 and 25 January. Those eligible for vaccination next week who have not yet registered have been invited to register for consultations at the community clinic being operated at the I Hotel and Conference Center in 1900 S. First St., C.

Vaccinees should wear a facial cover and plan to stay at least 15 minutes after vaccination for observation.

The cost of the vaccine is being covered by the federal government, and most health plans cover the cost of applying the vaccine, according to the health district.

On Friday, the health district vaccine panel shows that 9,763 people in Champaign County received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 1,837 had already received the second required dose.

The second dose is given three or four weeks after the first, depending on the type of vaccine.
