Greenville will require masks for everyone in supermarkets, pharmacies

Masks or facial covers will be required for all customers and workers in supermarkets and pharmacies in the city of Greenville due to the continuing threat from COVID-19. The measure will go into effect at noon on Tuesday and will last for the next 60 days, unless the city decides to change the mandate.

SC will attempt to suspend standardized testing

South Carolina will seek an exemption from state and federal standardized tests next year, State Superintendent Molly Spearman announced on Monday.

Spearman said the state Department of Education was “overwhelmed” by parents and teachers who asked to eliminate the high-risk tests of the year.

Greer to resume disconnections, late fees for non-payment July 1

The Greer Public Works Commission will continue with disconnections and late fees for those who do not pay their services on time. This occurs after a 4-month break to help clients in need during the coronavirus outbreak, according to a press release.

The policy will take effect on July 1. Customers with overdue balances of $ 200 or more on June 30 will automatically be enrolled in a 12-month interest-free payment plan, the statement said. Those with a balance of less than $ 200 are encouraged to call customer service at 864-848-5500 and request a 3 month payment plan or Greer Relief.

SC sees more than 1,000 new cases, Charleston has an increase in the number

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced on Monday that 1,002 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, as well as six additional deaths.

Charleston County led the state with 209 new cases, 100 more cases than reported on Sunday.

South Carolina now has a total of 24,661 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 653 related deaths, according to DHEC.

Clemson reports high levels of COVID-19 in wastewater

While the number of positive coronavirus cases continues to rise in South Carolina, Clemson employees report an increase in the virus in the community’s wastewater.

City and university officials have started testing the wastewater going to the Cochran Road Wastewater Treatment Plant, the city announced on Sunday.
