Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 292 new cases on Oregon’s first year anniversary

The Oregon Health Authority announced 292 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday and no new deaths.

Sunday marks a year since the first coronavirus case was identified in Oregon. Since then, more than 155,000 Oregon residents have been infected or presumably infected with the virus, and more than 2,200 Oregon residents with COVID-19 have died.

Oregonian / OregonLive on Sunday looked back over the past year and told the stories of 12 people infected with the coronavirus.

Governor Kate Brown released a statement on Sunday addressing the impact of COVID-19 on the state. She noted that Oregon maintained some of the nation’s lowest rates of infection, hospitalization and mortality, while recognizing the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on communities of color.

“Today and every day, we remember the more than 2,200 Oregon residents we lost,” said Brown. “Our hearts are with families that have lost loved ones to this deadly disease. We must continue to protect each other by wearing masks, avoiding meetings with people outside our homes, keeping our distance, washing our hands and staying at home during illness. “

Where new cases are by county: Baker (1), Benton (7), Clackamas (26), Columbia (4), Coos (10), Curry (3), Deschutes (6), Douglas (11), Grant (1), Hood River (1 ), Jackson (21), Jefferson (3), Josephine (3), Klamath (2), Lake (1), Lane (36), Lincoln (1), Linn (4), Malheur (1), Marion (52 ), Morrow (2), Multnomah (25), Polk (11), Umatilla (8), Washington (42) and Yamhill (10).

Who died: The state health authority did not report any further deaths from COVID on Sunday.

The prevalence of infections: On Sunday, the state released 350 new positive tests out of 10,336 tests carried out, which is equivalent to 3.4% positivity.

Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 134 Oregon residents with confirmed coronavirus infections were hospitalized on Sunday, 14 fewer than on Saturday. Of these, 26 patients with coronavirus were in intensive care units, five less than on Saturday.

Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 973,022 first and second doses of 1,194,495 received, which is about 81.5% of its supply. Oregon reported 29,330 new doses administered, including 19,513 on Saturday and the remainder of the previous days.

Since it started: Oregon reported 155,597 confirmed or suspected infections and 2,208 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the country. To date, the state has reported more than 3,590,431 test lab reports.
