Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 1 new death linked to COVID-19; computer problem delays case reports

The Oregon Health Authority reported another coronavirus-related death on Sunday, while a server error delayed processing the results of the COVID-19 test on Saturday.

As a result of the delay, the state reported only 111 new confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. As a result, officials expected the total reported on Monday to be higher than normal. It was not clear how many tests were processed.

The fatal case reported on Sunday brings the death toll in the state to 2,155. Across the country, nearly 500,000 people died of COVID-19.

The new figures appear as Oregon prepares to open the COVID vaccination for residents 70 and older. They are the third wave of elderly people in Oregon who received the vaccine. This group of about 212,000 Oregon residents can schedule a vaccination appointment starting on Monday.

Who died: The 2,155th death of COVID-19 in Oregon was an 84-year-old man from Clackamas County who tested positive on February 16 and died on February 20 at Kaiser Westside Medical Center Hospital. He had unspecified underlying health conditions, according to the Oregon Health Authority.

Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 166 Oregon residents with confirmed coronavirus infections were hospitalized on Sunday, three more than on Saturday. Of these, 44 patients with coronavirus were in intensive care units, seven fewer than on Saturday.

Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 802,404 first and second doses of 924,575 received, totaling 87% of its supply. Oregon reported 21,202 new doses administered, which include 17,894 on Saturday and the remainder of previous days.

Since it started: Oregon reported 152,818 confirmed or suspected infections and 2,155 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the country. To date, the state has reported more than 3,477,134 test lab reports.
