Coronavirus in Oregon: 796 new cases, 22 new deaths while Brown slightly eases business restrictions

Oregon reported 796 new coronavirus cases and 22 deaths on Tuesday, while Governor Kate Brown said that some companies in the most affected counties can now allow a very limited number of customers to enter after mandatory closures.

Among the small changes, internal buildings, such as museums, gyms and cinemas, with more than 500 square meters of space, will be able to receive up to six people at a time, starting from zero. The new restrictions do not apply to restaurants.

While Tuesday’s new case numbers have exceeded Monday’s numbers by hundreds of cases, they have not broken the downward trend Oregon has seen since January 15. The current weekly average of new cases per day is 698, compared with 1,309 daily cases in the week of January 14.

Deaths: State officials have yet to release details of the 22 recently reported deaths from COVID-19. This post will be updated after these details become available.

The prevalence of infections: On Tuesday, the state recorded 1,165 new positive tests out of 23,706 tests performed, which is equivalent to a positivity rate of 4.9%.

Who was infected: New confirmed or presumed infections grew between the following age groups: 0-9 (35); 10-19 (115); 20-29 (137); 30-39 (122); 40-49 (104); 50-59 (93); 60-69 (80); 70-79 (44); 80 and older (37).

Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 308 Oregon residents with confirmed coronavirus infections were at the hospital on Tuesday, 12 less than on Monday. Of these, 70 patients with coronavirus were in intensive care units, five fewer than on Monday.

Vaccines: On Monday, 40,775 Oregon residents were fully vaccinated and another 222,385 were partially vaccinated.

Since it started: Oregon reported 139,355 confirmed or suspected infections and 1,904 deaths, among the lowest totals in the country. To date, the state has reported 3,105,100 test lab reports.
