The Shelby County Health Department announced in a press release on Saturday that all vacancies for COVID-19 vaccines are filled for January.

“The Shelby County Health Department will continue to provide daily updates and will announce when more consultations are available,” concludes the update.

The Shelby County Health Department reported 552 new cases of coronavirus and 13 additional virus-related deaths on Saturday, January 9.

The 552 cases of coronavirus reported on Saturday came from 4,752 test results, generating a positivity rate of 11.6%. The test results, however, do not reflect the previous 24-hour period and include multi-day tests.

Since March, the Health Department has notified 73,178 cases of coronavirus in total and 1,016 deaths, classifying 65,071 cases as inactive / recovered.

Active cases in Shelby County stand at 7,091, up from 6,977 reported on Friday. A total of 863,237 coronavirus tests were performed in Shelby County, resulting in a 10% positivity rate.

The Shelby County Health Department will resume COVID-19 vaccinations next week, by appointment only, from 9 am to 6 pm, Tuesday through Saturday at the Pipkin Building, 940 Early Maxwell Blvd. on the fairgrounds.

There were 614 COVID-19 patients in Memphis area hospitals at 5 pm Thursday, the latest data available, according to the Tennessee Health Resource Tracking System. The Department of Health will provide weekend hospital data in its Monday update.

The hospital’s capacity for ICU beds is 95% in use, and beds for acute care are 93% occupied. The number of ICU beds available is 22, with 175 open acute care beds. Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting patient-occupied beds, staffless beds and beds that are not otherwise available.

Of the 614 people admitted, there are 154 in beds in intensive care units, with 460 in acute care beds.

Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent 42% of ICU patients and 24% of acute care patients.
