Control Ultimate Edition owners ask for refund after news of PS5 launch via PS Plus • Eurogamer.net

Control’s Ultimate Edition owners have requested a refund for the PlayStation 5, where the next-generation version of Remedy’s stylish shooter will now be released as part of the February PS Plus line.

Some fans say they bought the Ultimate Edition along with their PS5 and never downloaded or played Control on a PS4. The Ultimate Edition, as you may recall, is the recent version of Control that unlocks the new edition of the next generation on February 2nd.

Now, these fans – who in some cases dove twice in a second copy of the game to get their next-generation update – have asked for their purchases to be refunded, since the first time they will play it on PS5 will be the same day it is released via PS Plus.

The latest generation version was scheduled to arrive before Christmas, but in November it was postponed until 2021.

There is additional concern from fans who point out that Control’s Ultimate Edition went on sale in early January, something that will have boosted sales of the game just weeks before its announcement as a PS Plus title – although this is not the first time that such things happened.

Whether a customer will receive a refund is the decision of the platform owner, such as PlayStation, rather than the developer or publisher – in this case, Remedy or 505 Games.

The PlayStation store has a 14-day refund policy for purchases of games, add-ons and other content, as long as you have not started downloading or streaming the content in question. For pre-orders, you can cancel at any time until the game is released or up to 14 days later if you have not started the download or streaming.

Control Ultimate Edition is a package that contains the PS4 and PS5 versions and was released last September. However, some fans have argued that as the release date for the PS5 part of this package has not yet been reached, they are still entitled to a refund according to PlayStation’s pre-sale rules. For now, there is no suggestion that PlayStation will agree to this interpretation of its policies.
