Control fans confused with the free PS Plus version for PS5, PS4

What should have been a major public relations stunt for publisher Control 505 Games is already turning sour, as fans wonder why they were encouraged to buy the Ultimate Edition if it is being distributed on a daily basis with PlayStation Plus next month.

You must remember a huge uproar when the next generation update was announced, as it was promised only to the owners of the Ultimate edition mentioned above. After a substantial reaction, a statement was released explaining that “as we are only doing further development on Control: Ultimate Edition on the next generation platforms, unfortunately we cannot offer an upgrade path for all existing Control players”.

As you can imagine, it went down as well as an ethically ambiguous science project in an obscure and secretive organization, but some fans started to accept the news. As a result, when the PlayStation 5 version of the game was pushed to 2021, some decided to take the Ultimate Edition as part of a recent PS Store sale in preparation for the launch of the PS5 version on February 2.

That decision, of course, backfired, as the title will be made available for free to PS Plus subscribers on both PS5 and PS4 on a daily basis with its latest generation digital launch. Presumably, publisher 505 Games thought this would prevent the flow of negative publicity it received from its previous decisions – but it ended up making its more engaged fans even more angry.

It is possible that some will receive a refund from Sony customer service, especially if you have not yet downloaded Control: Ultimate Edition. Otherwise, you can just attribute it to bad luck.
