Conor McGregor faces long medical suspension

Conor McGregor is taking a big break after his loss at UFC 257 to Dustin Poirier on Saturday.

Former two-time UFC champion McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) suffered a technical knockout loss – the first of his career – in a rematch against Poirier (27-6 MMA, 20-6 UFC). Before arriving, Poirier injured McGregor’s legs with an attack of kicking his legs.

McGregor, 32, was sentenced to 180 days of medical suspension because of a potential injury to the right tibia / fibula suffered in the fight. Like all medical suspensions, he will be able to return sooner, if his injuries are cleared up by a doctor.

Poirier, meanwhile, received a seven-day suspension for mandatory rest.

MMA Junkie obtained the complete list of medical suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com for UFC 256, which took place last Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

After the fight, McGregor was on crutches. He limped his way backstage and to the post-fight press conference, where he expressed the pain he felt.

“My leg is completely dead,” said McGregor. “Although I felt like I was checking them out, I was just sinking into the muscle in front of my leg, and I was seriously compromised. It was like a football in my suit at the moment, so it is what it is. “

UFC 257 contestants Andrew Sanchez and Matt Frevola were also suspended for 180 days. Sanchez, who lost by technical knockout to Makhmud Muradov on the main card, suffered nasal and tibial / fibular injuries. In the preliminary fight presented, Frevola suffered a potential injury to his right hand in the unanimous decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan.
