Connie Nielsen returns as the mother of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Hipólita, in Warner Bros. ‘Wonder Woman 1984, with the actress opening on the filming of the sequel.
Her character Rainha Hipólita, the ruler of the Amazon on the mystical island of Themyscira, is seen in the epic opening scene of the sequence, when her daughter Diana was just a girl (played by Lily Aspell).
Nielsen, 55, spoke about the production in a new interview for The Hollywood Reporter, where he also talked about giving his ‘blessing’ to Zack Snyder’s new version of Justice League and the requests the director responded to.

Warner Bros. caused shock waves across the industry by announcing that Wonder Woman 1984 would be released in theaters and streaming on HBO Max at the same time on Christmas Day.
Although Nielsen hasn’t had a chance to see the film yet, since she is filming a new project called Close To Me, she talked about when director Patty Jenkins told her about the unique launch strategy.
“I’ve been emailing Patty about what’s going to happen, and she finally emails me saying, ‘It’s a heavy heart, but it’s also a very important thing to give people,’ said Nielsen.

“I think she sees it as something that we should give people now, even if it means not just opening the film in theaters,” added Nielsen.
While the Themyscira parts of the original Wonder Woman movie were shot in Italy, Themyscira’s scenes for the sequel were moved to the Canary Islands.
‘Yes, we shot our stuff on this Spanish island called Lanzarote, which is part of the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco,’ said Nielsen.

She also joked that the ‘good part’ of playing an Amazon is that they ‘live on a Mediterranean island, so that’s cool’.
Nielsen also praised his young co-star Lily Aspell, calling her a ‘force of nature’, adding: ‘Although she is still a child, I almost want to say’ this young woman, ‘because Lilly is a remarkable young woman.’
The film takes place in 1984, but Nielsen, who was born in Denmark, only moved to the United States in the mid-1990s, and when asked what he thought of the 80s references in marketing, Nielsen revealed the package amazing gift director Patty Jenkins gave the cast.

“As part of the team’s wrapping gift, Patty organized this 80’s yearbook for the team and cast who were at the time, and we put all of our 80’s photos there,” Nielsen started.
‘So I sent my photos too, and it was difficult because I had to find the one that was least worthy of sending. I don’t know if I did it, but I was wearing loafers with white socks, khaki pants, that Paul & Shark sweater and that French beret. And at the time, I thought I was cooler than you, ‘she said with a laugh.
Nielsen will also return as Hipólita in Zack Snyder’s long-awaited Justice League, revealing that fans will see more of her and the other Amazons in this film than in the original 2017 release of the Justice League.

‘So I don’t know the timing of either, but Zack has already called me to ask if I would accept a reissue of the film with changes. And I asked him, “Well, are you going to bring back the chapter from Amazon the way you wrote and filmed it?” And he said, “For sure.” And then I said, “And Zack, are you also going to bring back my incredible feat, climbing the walls?” And he said, “You did it.” So I said, “Yes, definitely. You have my blessing. For sure.”
Although Nielsen did not disclose any details about her stunt double running through the walls, or the ‘Amazon chapter’, she made it clear that much of what was filmed while Snyder was on set was not for the theatrical cut.
‘What was really sad was the amount of things that we shot that were not in the film. And I think that’s part of what made the Justice League (2017) less cohesive as a viewing experience. The intention was not the same during editing and during filming, ”she said.
