Today’s basketball game in South Carolina has been postponed.
Frank Martin and the South Carolina basketball program struggled with the COVID pandemic all year, having to cancel or postpone five games until this point in the season. Now a sixth game has been added to the list, as the Gamecocks clash with Ole Miss tonight will need to be moved to a later date in the year. Instead, Ole Miss will take over LSU, which also had its meeting with Missouri postponed due to the COVID protocol.
South Carolina had just started its list of conferences, defeating Texas A&M Aggies 78-54 on Wednesday night to start 1-0 in the league game. Hopefully, that hiccup won’t stop the momentum, as the Gamecocks are gearing up for a clash with a team from Tennessee that is currently ranked in the top 10.
Even in the wins over Florida A&M and Texas A&M in the past two weeks, Gamecocks have been limited. In the 78-71 victory over the Rattlers, South Carolina had only eight fellows available. That number rose to nine against the Aggies, when striker Jalyn McCreary managed to return to the court for the opening of the conference.
With these two victories, Gamecocks jumped 30 positions in the NET ranking, which is used to assess the strength and performance of each college basketball program. After stepping into position 103 last week, South Carolina’s two wins helped the team land in position 73 on the last throw.
If Gamecocks could stay on the court, they could have a chance to further improve their position. They will miss the opportunity to win on the road against Ole Miss, who is in 58th place in the country, but if they get back on track next week, there will be three direct clashes against teams in the top 25. NET rankings.
Hopefully, Frank Martin and Co. will be able to get back on the court soon, but there is no telling when the team will be back in full force. For now, let’s wait and see what happens in the days leading up to the confrontation with the Vols.
