Complete rosters launched for 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl

The full lineups are out of 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl, which takes place Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.

There are 134 confirmed players for this year’s game, about 25 more than in the past Senior Bowls. Due to the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, players who leave the game due to illness or injury cannot be replaced.

Players are divided into “American” and “National” teams, also a difference from the “North vs. South ”in the past. The Carolina Panthers team is training the American team, while the Miami Dolphins are training the Nacional.

Most players with state and local ties are grouped in the American team, including Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, strikers Alex Leatherwood, Deonte Brown and Landon Dickerson, long-snapper Thomas Fletcher, Auburn linebacker KJ Britt, the wide UAB receiver Austin Watkins and linebacker Jordan Smith, southern Alabama linebacker Riley Cole, Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney (a Blount High School graduate) and Central Florida defensive defender Aaron Robinson (a transfer from Alabama). Dickerson will not play due to a knee injury sustained in the Rose Bowl against Notre Dame.

The top names in the national team include Alabama’s running back Najee Harris and Michigan’s wide receiver Nico Collins (trained in Clay-Chalkville). Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith – the Heisman Trophy winner – and Ohio state running back Trey Sermon are also in the national squad, although neither of them plays due to injury.

A big name came out of the game on Monday, as Florida quarterback Kyle Trask is no longer on the list. Dane Brugler of The Athletic is reporting that Trask is dealing with an ankle injury.

Jones will join the American team’s quarterback with Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond and Jamie Newman, a transfer from Wake Forest who was briefly on the team in Georgia. The national team’s quarterbacks are Feleipe Franks from Arkansas, Sam Ehlinger from Texas and Ian Book of Notre Dame.

Workouts will take place Tuesday through Thursday at Hancock Whitney Stadium, although those workouts are closed to the public due to COVID restrictions (ESPN and NFL Network will provide television coverage). Other fan events like Meet the Players, Senior Bowl Summit and Senior Bowl Parade were also canceled this year.

The 71st Senior Bowl kicks off at 1:30 pm on Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the NFL Network.
