After such a brutal year, you might think that the Razzie Awards – the annual awards that celebrate (?) The worst of the worst in cinema last year – can take the day off. You would be wrong.
(Over there will be an award that recognizes the struggle that 2020 was for the industry, with a Special Governor Award for 2020 marking it as “The Worst Calendar Year EVER!”.)
In addition to the year itself, the other big winners / losers on the day of the nominations were 365 days – remember polish Fifty Shades of grey– how did that make people very hot and uncomfortable in the early days of the pandemic? – and the mega-budget Dolittle, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the titular doctor with the gift of the word when it comes to animals. Both films topped the nominee list with six nominations each.
Controversial titles like Sia’s Song and Ron Howard Hillbilly Elegy – which has become a kind of critical punching bag, despite a lot of love from the spectators, if you look at our Audience Score – it has also accumulated many nominees.
And a small editorial note from RT: We protest against any and all all appointments to Hubie Halloween, a only-Rotten Adam Sandler Halloween comedy that is an absolute prank; we have similar feelings about the appointment of Kristen Wiig to Wonder Woman 1984 – his Barbara Minerva was one of the best things in the film, according to many critics.
OK, apart from that, here’s the complete list of nominations for the 41st Golden Raspberry Award. The winners will be announced on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
