Several teams have contacted the Jets in recent weeks regarding a possible replacement for Sam Darnold, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Darnold, 23, has recorded 38 games with the Jets since he was selected with choice # 3 in the 2018 NFL Draft. The USC product recorded nine touchdown passes in 12 games in 2020, adding 11 interceptions.
New York is not yet ready to negotiate with Darnold, according to Schefter. The Jets “have not made any final and firm decisions as a defender” and “all options are being explored”.
The potential deal with Darnold is far from the only notable quarterback move this off-season. Matthew Stafford was negotiated with the Rams by Jared Goff on January 30, while Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson could find new homes in the coming months. Add a draft class loaded into the quarterback and the QB carousel is likely to move at a rapid pace in 2021.
The Jets finished last at AFC East in 2020, losing the playoffs for the 10th consecutive year. New York currently has the second choice in the 2021 NFL Draft.
