Comic-Con to hold live convention over Thanksgiving weekend

After more than a year without cosplay and superheroes, Comic-Con International announced on Saturday the dates of its 2021 convention.

The Comic-Con special edition will be held over the Thanksgiving weekend at the San Diego Convention Center from November 26-28. It will be the first face-to-face Comic-Con since the coronavirus pandemic derailed major meetings across the country.

“We hope that by autumn conditions will allow for more public meetings,” the organizers said in a statement. “The Comic-Con Special Edition will be the first face-to-face convention produced by the organization since Comic-Con 2019 and the first since the beginning of the global pandemic COVID-19.”

Organizers highlighted the “acute” loss of revenue suffered since the last full-fledged convention held in 2019.

“We hope that this event will strengthen our financial reserves and mark a slow return to major personal meetings in 2022,” said David Glanzer, a spokesman for the nonprofit organization.

Details on cost and service capacity are still being finalized, organizers said.

Comic-Con attracts around 130,000 people every year and has become an unmissable event for movie studios and celebrities who publicize their latest superhero offerings. This brings an estimated $ 166 million for the region, reported the San Diego Union-Tribune.
