A personal meeting at San Diego Comic-Con is officially in the works for 2021 – just this year, you’ll have to give up Turkey Day festivities to participate.
Returning to the San Diego Convention Center, the smaller, three-day event – which is technically called the “Special Comic-Con Edition” – will take place from Friday, November 26 to Sunday, November 28 … also known like Thanksgiving weekend.
After dismissing the usual live mega-meetings of fans from last summer and also from summer of 2021, due to the pandemic, Comic-Con organizers hope that, in the fall, “conditions will allow for larger public meetings”, such as the special edition from Comic-Con.
The group said on March 1 that this summer, as in 2020, there would be a free online streaming event Comic-Con @ Home, although it is not 100 percent clear whether that is still the plan; there was no mention in the last announcement.
“Although we were able to move from face-to-face meetings to limited online events, the loss of revenue had a sharp impact on the organization, as with many small businesses, requiring reduced working hours and reduced wages for employees, among other issues,” he said. Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer in a statement on Saturday. “We hope that this event will strengthen our financial reserves and mark a slow return to larger personal meetings in 2022.”
Earlier this month, Comic-Con officially removed the plug from its rather optimistic and pencil-marked dates for the usual SDCC, saying: “While we are excited about the vaccine launch and the growing number of individuals being inoculated, it looks like that July it will be too early to safely hold a face-to-face event of the magnitude of Comic-Con. “
The San Diego Comic-Con was canceled last year as a result of the global coronavirus outbreak. It was the first time in SDCC’s 50-year history that the event did not take place.
