Comcast joins WWE at Peacock Streaming Deal

Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) is putting its Peacock video streaming service in the wrestling ring. The major broadcaster has signed a multi-year contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE: WWE) for the latter to bring its “sports entertainment” brand to Peacock, the two companies announced in a joint statement on Monday.

Neither company provided the terms or financial details of the deal, nor did they say exactly how long it would be in effect. They also did not publish estimates on how it could affect their finances.

Under the terms of the agreement, Peacock will be the exclusive video streaming partner in the U.S. for the wrestling company’s WWE Network, which itself is a video streaming service. This content must be made available to subscribers of Peacock Premium, the paid tier of the streamer.

Comcast and WWE did not hesitate to point out that, with prices starting at $ 4.99 per month, Peacock Premium is 50% cheaper than a subscription to the WWE Network. It also, of course, grants access to a number of existing value-added Peacock content, such as previous episodes of The office. WWE material, which includes more than 17,000 hours of fighting and related videos, will start to be available on Peacock on March 18.

As with the WWE Network, Peacock Premium subscribers will also have access to frequent live wrestling company events, such as the famous event once a year WrestleMania. This year’s version of the extravaganza is set for March 28.

“Peacock is an innovative platform that will allow us to present our most significant events, including WrestleMania, and provide the extraordinary entertainment that our fans expect with the combination of WWE premium content, live sports, news, movies and television shows, “said WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan.
