Colten Gauthier signs with Gamecocks

South Carolina football reached its main target in the 2021 category.

South Carolina has achieved its primary goal in the 2021 class, with quarterback prospect Colten Gauthier signing a letter of intent on Wednesday morning. The signal caller becomes the first player to officially enter the class, and he plans to immediately challenge callback callers Ryan Hilinski and Luke Doty for playing time.

Gauthier is classified as a four-star prospect, accounting for a third consecutive class where Gamecocks have achieved one of the best passers in the country. Next year’s class can repeat the feat, as long as two-threat defender Gunner Stockton remains on the boat.

The Georgia native originally committed to Will Muschamp’s team in March, but kept that promise during the recent change of coach and will now play for Shane Beamer for the next few seasons.

As a senior, Gauthier completed 52% of his passes, 2,052 yards and 22 touchdowns. He led an air raid at the school, which could benefit him greatly, as the new technical team seems adamant about installing a version of the air raid scheme in Columbia, similar to the attack carried out at Shane Beamer’s last stop in Oklahoma.

The new freshman chose Gamecocks over Central Florida and Ole Miss, and he will try to make an immediate impact on the coaching staff. He spoke to Shane Beamer shortly after signing.

“Coach Beamer called me yesterday and we started talking,” said Gauthier in an interview with 247 Sports. “He said he was super excited that I was there and that he loves the way I play. He also told me that he loves what I do. “

All in all, it looks like Gauthier is excited to be in Columbia, and he is arriving with a great attitude as the school is going through its last transition.

“I am excited to be part of the new era at the University of South Carolina.”

We will have to wait and see what kind of impact he can make in his debut year, but it looks like he is putting himself in a good position to succeed.
