Colorado police release images of criminals in weekend Boulder riot, ask for public help to identify

Police in Boulder, Colorado, released a new video and more than a dozen new images of people who participated in the violence and destruction of property during an undisciplined weekend street party near the University of Colorado.

The incident happened on Saturday at University Hill and resulted in three SWAT officers being attacked by bricks and stones, police said. There was also significant damage to property, including a fire truck and an armored police vehicle.

Vehicles belonging to residents were also attacked and damaged, police said, including one that the crowd flipped.

The video released on Monday shows a short clip of several people hanging from the back of a moving fire truck. The photos show individuals as they saw a car from the side, standing on top of vehicles and someone lighting fireworks on the street.

Detectives have received more than 750 tips since Sunday about the incidents and asked the public to help identify them in the video and photos.

“Due to the magnitude of the information and the prevalence of social media, the amount of tips is unlike any previous investigation and it will take time to review and put the pieces together,” the police said on Monday.

Several individuals have already been identified, the police said, and detectives want to speak to others seen in the images.

Any students at CU Boulder who have violated COVID-19 public health orders could face disciplinary action, the university said. Those involved in the violence and destruction may face serious sanctions, including permanent eviction and criminal charges from the city and the county.

“The violence, vandalism and acts of aggression that we saw yesterday are unacceptable and we will do everything we can to hold the UC students who have been involved with them accountable,” UC President Mark Kennedy said in a statement on Sunday.
