A historic month for Oklahoma basketball – with wins in four of the top ten teams, most of the team in nearly 50 years – culminated on Saturday with a 66-61 home win over Alabama’s No. 9. Now Sooners’ stock is soaring to new heights. In the updated ranking of the AP Top 25 for college basketball, they climbed 15 positions from 24th to 9th place, the biggest jump among all teams this week and the biggest jump to OU in the program’s history.
It is the highest AP rating for the program since the early days of Trae Young’s season, when OU started that year 14-2 before dropping in the end and narrowly winning a general offer for the NCAA Tournament. And that happens just a week after OU was eliminated for the first time in the ranking of the season, highlighting one of the fastest climbs for a team in recent memory. He has already won three consecutive games, all against the first ten opponents.
Upon receiving the last show of courage in the OU championship, Alabama did not pay a high price. The tide fell just one position to tenth. Meanwhile, Ohio State joined the OU as one of two teams to move into the top 10, jumping from thirteenth to seventh.
