College baseball comparison: No. 13 South Carolina for the first 10-0 start since 2016; Clemson, College of Charleston and Citadel all fall | sports

COLOMBIA – South Carolina pitcher Julian Bosnic, Jack Mahoney and Brett Kerry combined to eliminate 16 in a two-shot submission while No. 13 Gamecocks defeated Mercer 1-0 to complete a three-game sweep at Founders Park.

South Carolina is now 10-0 for the first time since 2016.

Bosnic (1-0) threw 52/3 baseball entries without batting with nine eliminations, which tied with a career record, and four strokes. Mahoney hit four strokes on 3/21 relief passes, allowing for just one hit. Kerry made his first save, hitting from the side and allowing a hit in the ninth.

South Carolina scored its only run in the fourth round, while Joe Satterfield’s RBI groundout scored David Mendham, who walked in to start the inning. Braylen Wimmer, Josiah Sightler, George Callil and Satterfield had the four results of the day for Gamecocks.

South Carolina heads to Riley Park for a March 10 fight with The Citadel. The first pitch is scheduled for 19h. The game will be broadcast on ESPN +.

Notre Dame 3, Clemson 2

CLEMSON – Carter Putz’s two-race pair broke the 1-1 tie in the sixth inning and took Notre Dame to Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Fighting Irish (4-2, 4-2 ACC) won the series 2-1. The Tigers dropped to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC game.

Putz’s two-race double at the top of the sixth entry gave Notre Dame a 3-1 lead. Caden Grice hit a solo home run, his fourth of the year, at the bottom of the sixth inning to cut Notre Dame’s lead in half.

Liam Simon (2-0) won the victory by launching the 41/3 final entries. Jack Brannigan retired the last batsman to register his first defense of the year.

Reliever Mack Anglin (0-1) suffered defeat to the Tigers, whose four losses in 2021 were for five combined races.

Tigers host USC Upstate on March 9 at 4pm

No. 23 Alabama 21, College of Charleston 3

MOUNT PLEASANT – No. 23 Alabama pushed 10 runs in the third round and kept the College of Charleston goalless until the end of sixth, on the way to a decisive defeat at Patriots Point.

Crimson Tide (10-2) attacked first with a race in the second, before opening it with a third race of 10 races, which was marked by a grand slam and a base cleaning double. Alabama added races in the fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth frames to contain a sixth race of three of the Cougars.

Landon Choboy made 2 of 3 with a double RBI for the Cougars (3-7). Trotter Harlan added two singles, while Cam Dean also drove in a race in the sixth.

The Cougars travel to Buies Creek, NC, on March 9 to face Campbell at 5 pm.

North Carolina A&T 12, The Citadel 1

North Carolina A&T used three-race homers from Connor Knapp and Justin Williams in a loss at The Citadel in Riley Park.

Knapp’s blast came in the second round, and after a sacrificial fly in the third by Williams, the Aggies (4-7) opened the game in the seventh with a double three-stroke from Trevor Sheehan and the Williams blast as part of a seven-race inning.

The Bulldogs (4-6) had their only run of the day on the eighth inning. Ben Hutchins started the painting with a hint of a pinch. After going to second place on John Lanier’s single in the right field, Brooks O’Brien scored from the left side to score Hutchins.

O’Brien made 2 of 3. Lathan Todd (0-2) lost after allowing four runs in five strokes over six entries.

Cole Parks (2-0) won the victory after only one race in seven strokes and seven eliminations in eight entries.

Bulldogs receive South Carolina No. 13 at 6 pm on March 10.

Connecticut 5, Coastal Carolina 4 (12)

CONWAY – Erik Stock scored when Reggie Crawford chose a fielder at the top of the 12th inning when Connecticut defeated Coastal Carolina.

Stock caused the game’s tie sacrifice to fly ninth to Connecticut (4-5) to force extra entries.

Parker Chavers was 3 out of 5 with a double, triple and two RBIs and a stolen base for the Chanticleers (7-3), while Eric Brown was 2 out of 6 with a steal.
