Colder than average on Saturday, with the possibility of up to 7 cm of snow

DETROIT – Welcome to Saturday, Motown.

The snow returns on the first day of this weekend. A little sun comes back, Sunday. It will be much colder than average, again, throughout the weekend. More accumulated snow is in our forecast early next week, with a major storm on the East Coast.

Saturday morning will be very cold with snow arriving a few hours before dawn. Gusts and light snow start at around 4 am, when low morning temperatures start at low and midnight. Chills by the wind will have only one digit and will be almost zero.

Snow will spread as it continues to fall at breakfast time and around lunchtime. It will be mild to moderate at times. Temperatures remain well below zero; in higher adolescence. Smooth build-ups, up to an inch or more, will be common throughout the region. Snowflakes will stick to sidewalks and streets.

Last-minute Valentine’s Day shoppers will need to start early to finish finding cards and gifts early to avoid further accumulation, but don’t rush. Ramps, bridges and viaducts will be especially complicated, but not impossible to navigate. Be careful when walking too, because we don’t want slips and falls.

Saturday afternoon will be cold and snowy at times. Snow falling and blowing will make it difficult to see. So watch your speeds and spacing while driving. Stay alert to pedestrians and salt trucks with a wide berth as well. Another inch is possible in the afternoon.

Snow totals for today’s snow will generally be 1 to 2 inches, with some areas along I-94 and south of the M-59 receiving about 3 inches by the end of tonight.

Snow blows subside on Saturday night. We still need to dress in layers with temperatures returning to adolescence.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy and freezing cold. Night lows will be single digits, with chills close to or below zero.

Please continue to practice your warm-up habits. Do not use stoves or ovens to keep warm. Keep all space heaters away from anything flammable.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Sunday. It’s a great day to curl up with your girlfriend or spend time with your family. The day will be partly sunny and cold. Afternoon temperatures will be around 20 degrees; ten to fifteen degrees below average highs.

Brief snowfalls return, Sunday night and President’s Day, Monday. An inch of snow is possible, Monday, with snow falling mainly in the morning. Daytime temperatures will be at medium and high temperature. Another day to dress in layers if you go sledding or do anything else outdoors.

A large separate storm running over the Appalachians will be big enough to bring more snow, Monday night and Tuesday. Well, more than 1 inch of snow is possible, but it is too early to say what the exact accumulations will be. That said, don’t be surprised if you pick up your snow shovels again on Tuesday night or Wednesday. Tuesday’s highs will be close to 20 degrees.
