Cold War zombie updates Black Ops: Firebase Z, new benefit and more

To celebrate 115 Day, Treyarch shared a new blog post highlighting some of the news in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

The new zombie map, Firebase Z, arrives on February 4 for free.

In its blog post, Treyarch delves into the narrative origins of the Firebase Z map, reveals the new Tombstone Perk, provides updates on Onslaught mode and more.

Firebase Z ” will arrive on February 4 during the first season, free for all Black Ops Cold War players.

Today, we’re excited to debut the official logo and new narrative details for our next Zombie map.

In less than three weeks, “Firebase Z” will introduce Zombie fans to a new location set in the jungles of Vietnam, along with new characters, new enemies, new game mechanics and more. And, according to the zombie tradition, a new awesome Wonder Weapon awaits you.

Now – without spoiling too a lot – let’s get into the story so far.

REQUIRE VS. OMEGA

Dimensional violations continue to open up around the world. While Omega and Requiem work in the shadows to ensure the secrecy of their discoveries, the general public remains happily unaware of this deadly new arms race between East and West.

While the two sides continue to study the Dark Aether dimension and the Aetherium crystals found inside, each fights for an advantage over the other in the Cold War. The bad news? Requiem stayed behind.

The Omega Group’s newest research outpost represents its resounding successes in harnessing Dark Aether technology for its own gains. Equipped with a dimensional portal on site, they acquired the ability to send soldiers and other “conscripts” to the Dark Aether to harvest Aetherium Crystals straight from the source.

As a result, the Omega Group’s scientific discoveries in recent months have far exceeded anything Requiem could have imagined.

DESTINATION: OUTPOST 25

With the destruction of the “Projekt Endstation” anomaly in its wake, Grigori Weaver and Requiem’s agents turn their attention to a much greater threat: a new Dark Aether outbreak site in Southeast Asia.

After discovering that Agent Maxis was captured by the Omega Group, Weaver sends Requiem’s attack team to infiltrate the facility where she is allegedly detained: Outpost 25.

Against all odds, Requiem’s forces will infiltrate the outpost to meet with an informant from the Omega Group, save Samantha Maxis and, above all, survive the new horrors that await them in this abandoned research center.

In the coming weeks, we will have more details of the “Firebase Z” story, new intelligence revelations and the official game trailer to share in the preparations for the launch. In the meantime, we’ll dive into the additional content that comes to Zombies as the first season continues.

NEW BENEFIT: TOMBSTONE SODA (FEBRUARY 4)

How can we have hinted not so subtly on New Year’s Eve, we are bringing a seventh benefit to Black Ops Cold War Zombies along with the launch of “Firebase Z”: Tombstone Soda.

“But Treyarch,” you ask, “what’s so new about Tombstone?” Thanks for asking. Great question.

In deciding on the next Perk to be introduced to the Zombies, the design team reviewed the complete history of each Perk and past skill that revolved around death and ultimately turned them into an incredibly useful Perk for Black Ops Cold War. Tombstone Soda aims to manipulate and cheat the consequences of death, and you will need it against the forces that await you in Vietnam.

Unlike his first incarnation in Black Ops II, the new and improved Tombstone Soda will now transform the player into a shadow within the Dark Aether after being knocked down. In this form of shadow, you will be equipped with weapons to help give you a chance to fight to revive yourself. However, if your health is reduced to zero while in shadow form, you are dead.

Fortunately, the benefits of Tombstone only get better from there. Each benefit comes with its own upgradeable skill set at Black Ops Cold War, and this is no different. By investing Aetherium Crystals in your Tombstone Perk skill, you will unlock the following updates:

  • Tier I – The shadow form can regenerate health.
  • Tier II – Increase the duration of the reduction to 60 seconds.
  • Tier III – When you die, take down a Tombstone hideout that saves your weapons, equipment and resources.

You can pick up a can from the Tombstone Perk machine on “Firebase Z” and also find it on the Der Wunderfizz machine on “Die Maschine” on February 4. When in doubt, remember those timeless jingles: Rest in pieces, down to the count …

NEW SUPPORT SCORESTREAKS AND INTEL (FEBRUARY 4)

February 4 will also bring two new support Scorestreaks to summon against the undead: the devastating Artillery and always satisfactory Napalm Strike. When the action gets a little too hot, go to the Craft Table and increase the heat even more.

Ahh, we love the smell of crunchy zombies in the morning.

And of course, a new zombie map means new Intel in the game. Look out for new audio records, documents, radio communications, Dark Aether dispatches and hidden artifacts on “Firebase Z” starting February 4. You never know what you can find.

Friendly reminder: if you haven’t yet discovered 100% of Intel in the game hidden in “Die Maschine” and Onslaught, now is the time to complete your collection before the story continues!
