DETROIT – It is a good thing that we have no wind now because, if we did, we would have warnings of cooling by the wind in force.
Most of us are starting the day well below zero, and if it’s not below zero where you are, you’re not far from it. The 4 am temperatures included 1 degree (-17 degrees Celsius) in Detroit and Windsor, zero (-18 degrees Celsius) at Metro Airport in Romulus, -5 degrees (-21 degrees Celsius) in Waterford and Howell, and our temperatures the coldest are -15 degrees (-26 degrees Celsius) in Port Huron and -18 degrees (-28 degrees Celsius) in Lapeer.
These are our lowest temperatures since late January 2019! You can imagine what those chills would be like if we had wind!
Fortunately, we will have a lot of sun this morning, before the clouds move this afternoon. This should raise temperatures to over 30 degrees (-7 degrees Celsius) this afternoon.
The wind will remain light, eventually blowing from the west and then moving southeast at 4 to 7 mph.

Today’s sunrise is at 7:26 am and today’s sunset is at 6:09 pm
Wednesday night is cloudy, with minimum temperatures of -11 degrees Celsius … this is a little easier to deal with.
The Thursday / Friday storm I have been writing about since last week doesn’t seem to be a problem for us. It is possible that we will be circumvented by a little light snow from Thursday to Thursday at night – the best chance of seeing any buildup is usually south of I-94 and on our east side, and you are only looking at maybe an inch or a little more.
Scattered snow showers can still cross the area on Friday, especially at Thumb.
Highs on Thursday in the mid-20s (-4 degrees Celsius), highs on Thursday night in the mid-teens (-9 degrees Celsius) and highs on Friday in the mid-20s (-2 degrees Celsius ).
The next storm approaches on the weekend, but not before we have a wonderful winter day on Saturday for the kids (and us adults, too) to go out and play in the snow. Expect some sunshine, with highs in the mid-1920s (-5 to -4 degrees Celsius).

Things remain calm on Saturday night, with lows likely dropping to single digits (-15 to -13 degrees Celsius).
Rising clouds on Sunday, with the possibility of snowing in the late afternoon. Highs close to 32 degrees (0 degrees Celsius).
The snow increases on Sunday night and, for the first time in a long time, I can argue that we really have a chance for some freezing rain or rain to mix. But areas where all snow remains can receive a few centimeters.
