Cobra Kai The fourth season is coming, but according to the show’s executive producers, there may be even more reserved for the dojos’ future.
In early October, Netflix announced that the dojo’s doors will remain open for season 4, and as long as the Cobra Kai bosses hope to start production earlier this year, they are also eyeing other storytelling avenues to expand the franchise universe further. And they look for one of their favorite series to get inspired.
“Our hope is that we can really expand this whole karate Kid universe and invigorate the fan base, so that it’s a story that we can keep telling, ”EP and co-showrunner Hayden Schlossberg tells TVLine. “We have an end to Cobra Kai, but we always compare it to our other favorite show, Breaking Bad, [and how] they are able to keep the story going on with Better to call Saul and El Camino.
“We spent time with Kreese’s backstory [in Season 3], but we could have spent More time with Kreese’s backstory. We have so much to tell in these half-hour episodes that it just isn’t enough. We’re just having fun with friends working in the sandbox of The Karate Kid and I hope to continue. “
With the recent move of the series to Netflix, an expanded universe or a collection of companion series may be the right thing to keep Miyagi-Do’s spirit alive for the foreseeable future, says the EP.
“If you look at our careers, we’ve always had sequels. We fall in love with our characters, ”adds Schlossberg. “Each permutation of spinoff or deep diving passes through our minds. Everything has to be the right thing, and it must have the same level of quality as Cobra Kai It’s. Our minds are always thinking karate Kid, so that possibility is definitely out there. “
In the meantime, Schlossberg, along with fellow EPs / co-showrunners Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, confirmed that pre-production for Season 4 is “in full swing”. Heald says: “We have most of the episodes written and the whole season planned.”
