Coast Guard ends search for boat carrying 20 from Bahamas to Florida

The U.S. Coast Guard announced Friday that it had suspended the search for a missing ship carrying about 20 people traveling from the Bahamas to South Florida.

The blue and white 29-foot Mako Cuddy Cabin left Bimini, Bahamas on Monday, but failed to reach its destination in Lake Worth, Florida, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

Authorities received information about the boat’s disappearance on Tuesday, which led to an extensive search by the Coast Guard, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association.

The 84-hour search covered about 17,000 square miles between the Bahamas and Florida, the agency said.

The Coast Guard did not identify any of the passengers.
