The long-awaited return of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2021 ‘has been canceled’, after being postponed to October due to concerns about the coronavirus.

The annual event, which is the largest music festival in the United States, will not return until 2022, according to a report published by Variety on Wednesday.

Once the change is officially confirmed, it will be the fourth time that the dates will be rescheduled in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two weekend festival, which takes place in Indio, California, is attended by about 250,000 people and has already announced Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine as main attractions.

Coachella 2020 was initially scheduled to take place on two separate weekends in mid-April, before being postponed to October and then, for the third time, to April 2021.

It was then rescheduled for October 2021, but the dates have not been officially confirmed by prosecutors and there are no dates published on the official website for several months.

Sources who spoke to Variety said the reason for the latest postponement is ‘continued uncertainty’ about the coronavirus pandemic.

Representatives from Goldenvoice, the event’s promoter, and AEG Presents, its parent company, did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment.

The forecast is that the Stagecoach Country Music festival, which takes place on the weekend after Coachella, will also be busy.

Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean were cast to head Coachella, while Lil Nas X, Carrie Underwood, Alan Jackson and ZZ Top were cast to stage Stagecoach.

The spring dates of the twin music festivals were among the first major events canceled last year, and would have occurred for three consecutive weekends at the Empire Polo Club de Indio.

In January, health officials in Riverside County signed a public health order requesting that both festivals be canceled for April, again, due to concerns about COVID-19.

Each year, Coachella generates a whopping $ 100 million for Goldenvoice and its parent company AEG.

However, the company – like many other live music operators – is suffering amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The postponement of the Coachella Valley festival season last year was a major blow to the local economy, losing more than $ 700 million, according to the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership.

In the United Kingdom, the Glastonbury Festival announced in January that it would not happen for the second year in a row because of the pandemic.

Music festival co-organizer Michael Eavis – who is curating the program with his daughter Emily, said he was “very sad” to have to cancel the event for the second year.
