Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals canceled for 2021 due to coronavirus

The popular music festivals Coachella and Stagecoach will not take place this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Cameron Kaiser, public health officer for Riverside County, California, announced on Twitter on Friday that he signed an order canceling the events, which were planned for April.

“Due to the pandemic, public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser today (January 29) signed a public health order canceling the Coachella Valley and Stagecoach Country Music music and arts festivals planned for April 2021,” your message said. “We are looking forward to when events can return.”

No new dates have been announced for the events.

Event organizers Goldenvoice and AEG did not immediately respond to Fox News’s request for comment.

Coachella was scheduled to take place from 9 to 18 April, while Stagecoach would pick up the following weekend and take place from 23 to 25 April.

The festivals were also canceled in June last year. They were also scheduled to take place in early 2020, before being postponed to October and eventually canceled altogether.

The 2021 schedule was not publicly announced, but in 2020, Coachella was set to be headed by Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean, while Stagecoach would be headed by Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood and Eric Church.

2020 was the first year since 2000 that Coachella did not take place. The annual event started in 1999 and did not return until 2001.

Coachella and Stagecoach are two of the most popular music events in the country, with Coachella gaining 99,000 participants in 2019, by Insider, and about 80,000 attended Stagecoach, according to Desert Sun.

The news comes at a time when the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage in the United States, with new variants appearing across the country and the world.
