CNN’s Stelter scoffed at praising Biden’s ‘refreshing’ press secretary, Jen Psaki

CNN media correspondent Brian Stelter has already secured Biden’s White House relationship with the truth, praising the new press secretary Jen Psaki’s “refreshing” commitment to providing accurate information.

Stelter shared a chyron from Sunday’s episode of his “Reliable Sources” program that said, “Psaki promises to share ‘accurate information’ (how refreshing).” To make it very clear, he tweeted “(How refreshing)”.

Stelter made it a point to let his Twitter followers know that he wrote the chart about Psaki, a former CNN commentator and longtime Democratic defender. Psaki has pledged to conduct daily briefings with the press, a break from Trump’s White House, which has essentially disabled long-standing practice.

Stelter’s credulity is part of a pattern in his network and other means of preemptively declaring the Biden White House a den of telling the truth. John Harwood, CNN White House correspondent tweeted that “truth” and “knowledge” were back the day Biden opened.

However, CNN has already screwed up a story using Biden sources. In a widely shared article, the liberal channel quoted two anonymous sources last week who said the Trump administration had left no vaccine distribution plan for its successor, only to be refuted by other reporters and infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Among Stelter’s trusted sources to support Psaki’s case was a former colleague in the Obama administration, Jay Carney. After 20 years at TIME Magazine, Carney served as communications director for then Vice President Biden from 2009 to 2011 and as President Obama’s second press secretary from 2011 to 2014.

“The Biden government wired early how honest they would be,” said Carney. “Instead of hesitating, they were clear about COVID-19, which will get worse before it gets better. Deposits in the integrity bank.”

Stelter spent much of the first week of the Biden administration refining his communications department and delighting in the changing tone of the Trump era. At one point, he worried that “the anti-democratic media” might “cloud” Biden’s first week with false scandals. At his first Biden-era show, he declared that the Biden White House was a “break from the chaos and incompetence of the Trump world”.

In his Sunday program, he worried that Biden’s call for “unity” would be impossible due to the lack of cooperation from the right-wing media.

Critics on the right criticized Stelter’s “refreshing” language.
